If you own or are thinking of owning a piece of country property and want some cattle, something that is small, universal and easy to handle, get a Dexter. They are the world's smallest true breed of cattle.Being small in stature, the carcass is just right for family consumption. These little cattle also double as a milk cow, producing 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 gallons of milk a day (sometimes more) so you will no longer need to go to the store for dairy products. The Dexter will meet your needs for anything, be it meat, milk or a lawn mower and weed reducer. You can read a nice little article out of The Land at http://www.thelandonline.com/currentedition/x1081149451/Cover-story-Dexter-cattle-short-on-stature-big-on-interest.
As of this year, 2015 we became members of The Livestock Conservancy. They are working to preserve over 200 breeds of livestock currently on the endangered list. It wasn't many years ago that the Dexter was under the Critical/Threatened list, but now they are under the Recovering List. It is an exciting time in the world of Dexters right now. We are growing yearly as an association and the events keep getting better and better.
